Indie Filmmakersguid to the Internet
A Panel Discussion about the Internet as a marketingtool. Various Models how the internet worked for the Filmmaker were presented. For Example there was M Dot Strange, a Filmmaker who does animations with a slightly Horror-touch. He posted every day or so on youtube what he’s doing on his movie. Then there were also trailers and stuff. Even the whole movie is viewable online. But there is also a DVD which has various extras, like 8 or so Soundtracks to choose from which are only available on the DVD. And this one seems to sell very well.
Or there is this guy who does short documentaries on the Internet. He finances his movies with the help of the community. He also does house screenings where fans of his work invite totally strangers to view one or more of his documentaries at their home, to discuss afterwards. All managed over the internet.
Or there is another guy who puts material online as a podcast to make an audience. He then collects the zipcode of the guys or girls interested in viewing the movie. if there are enough in one region he then contacts cinemas in this region to arrange a screening of his movie. The collected zips suite as a marketing tool in this way. He has a number of people who are interested in seeing his flick, so the cinemas see that there is an audience, even if the film is not mainstream..
