MacOS X Leopard

The Brand new MacOS X is there. Not here, but you can buy it. It brings a shitload of features, but which of them may be usefull for filmmakers? (Yeah, may be, haven’t seen it jet).

  • Well, first of all there are stacks. These are Folders that you drag and dropped to the dock. When you click one of the stacks a overview over all the datas in this folder appears. May be usefull for pictures (muzzle-flashs, Mattepaintings, Logos), videos (all your grabbed or rendered videofiles) or similar.
  • TimeMachine may help you get your system clean for the next project.
  • With Spaces you get some virtual desktops to switch throught. Now you can run FinalCut on one Space, AfterEffect or Motion on the next, arrange and preview your files on another … think you get it. I’m really looking forward for this feature.
  • You get Bootcamp. With it you’re able to run Windows and MacOS X one one (Intel)Mac. Maybe usefull if you get an MacBookPro that you use normally to cut and edit your Videos, but while Filming you want to use Adobe OnLocation which ist Windows only to grab your Videos directly to your HDD.

There will be a lot more, but before updating I would wait if there are any Problems with the software your using on your Mac. Just monitor Sites like macrumors.com, especially they forums to see when it’s time to switch. If your not working on a project right now you can test it by yourself and add your found problems to the forums. If noone tests it noone will know if it works ;-)
