CineGear 2008
As the Website says:
(Cine Gear is) the premiere Film, Video and Digital Media Expo, networking event and seminar series for the entertainment production and post production community in Hollywood.
And they are right. As the NAB seems to be bigger and brighter shining NAB is not in Hollywood. But anyway. There is a lot of Stuff that was shown, and a lot of them is really useful.
Adam Wilt over at ProVideoCoalition.com did a great to watch 2 Posts Overview. Day1, Day2. The Komet LED light touched me the most in his overview, I mean, look at the Picture. They had put the Light into a Glass with some Goldfishs. That is smart Marketing ;-). Oh, and there Was the SkaterDolly that now has a tilt head option. Nice. Take a look at this Stuff and more in Pictures at the upper two Links.
The Guys at FreshDV also packed their Stuff and drove to Hollywood. As always they made some cool Videointerviews with the Guys that were around. The Guys from Viewfactor showed their Inclino Remote Follow Focus . Nothing I need, but may be useful, maybe if you have a Red or a Big Lens in front of your Lens Adapter
Sachtler presented their Soom Tripod System. This is a nice one. You can use the Base as a Monopod and the lower Tripod, the one that normally stabilizes the whole Tripod as a now Level Mount. Nice. But with around 2 and a half Grands way over my Limit. You know, I’ll buy a Cam for 3000$, that would mean that my tripod (with a good Head) would be more expensive than the cam. No way Sachler.
And then there is a Video that shows some Filters, Support Arms, and Clamps. If you need one of these take a look. Hell, take a look anyway.
Viewfactor also showed their Origo and Mirus. Origo is a remote Start/Stop for the RED cam. But the Mirus is the really cool Stuff. It’s a Motion Control Tripod Head. As they say you just move the Head and wenn your done klick a button and it will repeat the movement. You can also control other Stuff like Motors for Lenses with it. Really Cool Stuff.
Rosco showed their LitePad HO But not only the LitePad, they also showed a lot of Stuff for the LitePad and the new LitePad HO. The Lights are not only bright and Low Voltage, they are also at a very competitive Pricepoint. They go from 89$ for the smallest light to 825$ for a 2 by 2 which is a Huge Light to brighten up your Scene.
VFGadgets showed their Dolly and Red Handle. The Dolly seems very adaptive. it can go from a 12 inch track to huge. Take a look.
Gekko showed their Ring Lights. They may not be cheap, but they have a lot of features anyone could need. You can dimm the Light with no change in color-temperature in four sections, you have filters that mount onto the Light and many more. The Perfect thing for run-and-gun or for Close-ups.
And finally there were Zacuto who showed their ZwingAway. Its a Mount that you put between your Cam and your Mattebox to make it a swing-away one. Nice one. They also showed there other stuff like the Jeep, their Quick Release and their updated arm.
Pro8mm was also there showing how they redo the 8mm Cams to be compatible to the new Standards like 16by9…
