Mark Christiansen over at ProVideoCoalition postet 10+1 Reasons why Scarlet will change the Game 2009. And damn is he right.

Here are my comments, under them the Reasons in short, get Marks explanation at pvc.

The Apple partnership sounds interesting. Buy the Cam together with a Macbook Pro and FinalCut at the Apple Store? No problem for me. But please make that it works with other NLE also. The other things are known and yes, the Scarlet will change the Game 2009.

  • 3K native sensor
  • Under $3K price
  • Framerates up to 100 fps (180 fps burst)
  • Redcode RAW
  • RGB output
  • No kit required
  • Fixed lens custom-designed for the Mysterium sensor
  • Customization
  • Multi-function operation
  • Fearless market position
  • Apple partnership

Red Lens testing

Adam Wild made a Lens test available on ProVideoCoalition about the latest Red Lenses. He also testes the TV Lines and they are at 3.2k Not bad. As there are a lot of HDV Cams out there that have les TV Lines than SD this should be more than okay. And as I’d like to work at 2k Cinemascope with the Scarlet it would be fine if the 3k Sensor of it would also be capable of a 78% Res in TVLines ;-)

Indie4k abour RED Stuff

In their first Look at the Scarlet the Folks at Indie4k.com talk a little bit about why there are no interchangable Lenses at the Red Scarlet and how cool RED is to release this thing for 3 Grands.

They even speculate that the Scarlet is a gateway drug for pulling People to the Red Workflow. You know, People like me and you. Indie Filmmaker, Filmstudents, this sort of people. And Hell do I agree with them :-)

In the other Post they compare the Scarlett with the HVX200, the Cam that will be known as the Indie-Filmmakers-Cam Pre-Scarlet ;-)

Nice read and of cause the Scarlet took first place. But they are comparing a Years old Cam with one that will be available in a Year or so…

Sorry… dictatorship is winning big here.

We will listen very carefully, but this is not a “vote for options” program.

If you want that, start your own company.

Jim

And he’s so right with it. I follow all the panik at reduser.net and really can’t see why they are flipping out.
Maybe that’s bacause I’ve seen/read all this at the Red One before?

I mean, lets be serious. You’ll get an 3k 2/3″ Cam with an 4,8″ flip-out LCD for under 3000$. Fully working. No need to buy extra Lenses, no need to get an external LCD, 4.8″ is huge for cams this size.

Yes. You can max the Price if you want. Get an 35mm-Adapter with a Lens = 2000$. Get a MatteBox = 1000$. Get a Rod-System to carry all this (maybe with a Handle or two) = 2000$

8000$ There you go. But wait. Other competitioners are 13500$ blank. Without 35mm, a huge lcd …..

And to be honest. What did you think? This Company is called Red ;-) and this Site digitalREDvolution.com …
