The first Competitor for the Scarlet talked about here. Well, what do we have?

The Ikonoskop A-cam dII is a 16mm cam arrived at the digital age. It records uncompressed raw 1920×1080 Images which makes 80GB last 12 Minutes in 25 fps. Which means for one Hour of material you need 400GB Space on your drive. As I have recorded more than 15 Hours of material for my 1hour BloodOpera that would be… 6000… way to much for an Indy-Guy doing No-Budget Stuff.

The Cam has exchangeable Lenses with various mounts, so this would be a plus. But the Sensor is barely bigger than the Scarlets one:

The A-Cam ones should be at S16 Size

Yeah, you can exchange the Lenses, but it will not give you the 35mm Look. And that’s why they want it primarily. Okay, the Lens is f1.5, the Scarlets one only f2.8 (till now, but announced to be better).

The Price? €9800. And right now €6800 for a short period of time, which is about 12.000$

Scarletkiller? No way. Higher Price, way larger files and no one knows how they will work while editing… Interesting? Of cause. But nor for me, maybe for someone who has more money to spent and doesn’t know where to better put it (Effects, Software, Actors or even Accessoires for your Scarlet )

  • Super-16 sensor (slightly wider than Scarlet’s)
  • 1920×1080
  • 1-60 fps
  • Shoots uncompressed DNG or TIFF
  • €6,950 (about US$12,000) with battery, 9mm f/1.5 lens and 80GB Memory Cartridge
