Che: The Argentine

Last Weekend I had a day off. My Son was visiting his Grandma and me and my Wife took the Chance to hit the Theaters again after a Long time with only DVDs to view. And I wouldn’t tell you this here, if it wouldn’t have something to do with Red.

As you can see on Reds own Shot on Red-Site

this Movie was shot on Red Cams as we mentioned before.

And yeah. I’m a Fan of Che Guevara too, so I was very pleased to see that the Movie is really well done. I love the Look of it too. Don’t know if the Black and White Stuff was also filmed with a red but this part looks like 16mm Film Stock. The other stuff, as seen in the Teaser up there looks really pleasing to the Eyes. For me, as I don’t want to fully recap the Movie before I have seen Part two, it is a must see. Check it out as soon as possible. Steven deserves it. The Cinema I visited was packed with 12 People :-/ only.

No, I didn’t turn to the dark side and have put some Google-Ads on here. This is what I’m talking about:

redcinex1

Take a look at this funky Video

Looks like RedCineX (which got it’s own Category here, as it looks damn promising) is going to be an lightwight NLE combined with Lightroom on Stereoids for moving raw images. Combined with a Plug-In Architecture it could get the Red Users Tool of Choice. Maybe ad an easy share with AfterEffects/Whatever to it and make it working rock solid (with the Help of Red Rocket) and See you later FinalCut and PremierePro. The random Webstuff can be done easily with iMovie.

I really hope to get my hands on it asap. (which looks like August in Red terms). Maybe red Could sponsor me a red Rocket powered Computer if I promise to put some random how-to for this stuff online regularly… Jim?

Moving Stills with the R1

Found this Video on Philip Blooms Site. It shows how AlexxHenry used the Red One to produce living Posters.

As promised, here is our experience with using the Red One Camera, chronicling our voyage beyond the still image. Looking forward to our next project featuring living art portraits. Stay tuned… After the video, take a peek at the links to see the final results.

We’re very excited about all the possibilities with converging photography and motion. Big thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. Especially Pam, DJ and Chad over at Hallmark who championed the idea. It’s not every client who is willing to take a risk with something new and they deserve recognition for this.

I’ve bought a new Cam. A red one

No, not what you think. Or at least what I want you to think. Not a Red One, but a red one. I’ve ordered a Panasonic Lumix GH1. Red colored. As pictured here:

panasonic-lumix-gh1

What does that mean for this Blog? Have I turned against RED? Will I not order a Scarlet asap? Will this Blog die?

No!

As I said the Scarlet fixed is the Cam I love and will buy. And even if I put this Post under the Category Competition I don’t think the GH1 really is Competition to the Scarlet.

But she will be a good Companion. Her 4/3″ Chip with the slower f4.0-5.6 Lens will produce a DOF that will mach the Look of the f2.4 2/3″ beautifully. The GH1 is way smaller, can be used where you are not allowed to film normally. And then there is this Webshow I’ll start to produce this Summer where the GH1 will be a big Part of. But more on that later on my Blog. There you’ll also get some more insights about the Cam and the Look she produces. Look out for it of follow me on Twitter to get the latest and greatest.

Plays full quality realtime 4K to 4K monitor or projector from QUAD HDMI/HD-SDI RED Rocket breakout box output.

By Jim

Way to big and expensive for me right now, but looks like the thing you need when theres 4k produced by your cam. As mine will only produce 2×3k and cost the same as Red ROcket and Breakout box together this would be a bit overdressed right now. But maybe later, as it’s a steal for that little money.

…and a better Look at the Fixed Scarlet.

red_scarlet_fixed_08

This is a Good Look at what I think is the Fixed Scarlet Kit. Maybe not exactly, but in general. The LCD may be another one (possibly the one that slaps to the Body of the Cam directly from the renders), but yeah. The Brain plus the Handle(with an included Battery), a RedMote, the CF-Card Slot and an LCD to monitor your Stuff. Sounds like an everything is there Bundle.

red_scarlet_fixed_06

Her you’ve got a better Look at the CF-Module, the LCD that will probably change and the RedMote. I think the LCD will be mounted on top of the Cam, directly to the Body, with an LCD like on this picture.

red_scarlet_fixed_05

This Pic gives you a better Idea what the Handle will bring into the Package. First of all that’s the Battery for the Cam. You could also get a Module to stick between Brain and RedMote, but in the Kit this will be the Power Source. As you can see the Handle has the same Controles that the RedMote provides. The Rec Button is on Front of the Handle, the Display (a smaller one) on top.

More Photos of the Fixed Scarlet and every other Scarlet or Epic can be found in this Thread at Scarletuser.net . And thanks to Peter Majtan for allowing me to use some of his pics here.

Update, see Comments! Thanks Scott!

Twitter / Stu Maschwitz: RT @janakic Got word from ...

Wow, NAB2009 gets hot. This is the latest Twitter retweeted by 5tu aka. Stu Maschwitz from ProLost. It says:

RT @janakic Got word from RED that S35 models of Epic and Scarlet will be the first out. In September. Can’t wait! http://twitpic.com/3sy99

So S35 Epic and Scarlet in September. Cool. But what about the real Scarlet Fans? What about the ones that wanted a fixed and havn’t changed like a flag in the Wind. What about me ;-)

No, everything is cool. Let it come.

Update! Looks like the Tweet is a false Information. I need a Contact-Person at Red to clarify stuff like that :-)

RED Party Pictures - Reduser.net

Here’s some Gearporn Galore form the RedUser Party. I’ve just put the Images of the Cams up here, as I see no need to look at the empty Ballroom. Feel free to surf the Thread at RedUser to watch it

1240334798

First of a Render Jim posted for the ones waiting for Info from the RedUser Party.

_ssc0225

Lets start off with the fixed Scarlet, as this is my thing really. Maybe this is the Fixed Kit? A Grip, a Redmote, a Monitor? If the CF-Slot is build into the Brain this could be it. Not the baddest Package for 3750$. But this is of cause pure speculation. And I need an EVF per Scarlet anyhow.

_ssc0227

A look from the other Site, some Brains and a Scarlet in DSLR Configutation. If the Fixed Kit up there has the same CF Slot this really looks like a decent package. But lets move on.

_ssc0226

Closeup of the Scarlet DSLR Config. Not sure about the Viewfinder at the left side, And it doesn’t look to be mountable on Top. What’s about a 3D-Kit? Hoped to be able to mount the Viewfinders on Top directly, but it looks like I need to get into the Rod-System Business finally.

_ssc0224

If I go the Rod-System Way I may also get a replacement for my DV-MultiRig. I like the Idea of having My Cam stabilized by my Shoulder and my Back. Plus the Hands (that need some Grips there somewhere). This are four Points of Contact.

Imagine that with two Fixed Scarlets and two Viewfinders for real 3d while filming. I’d place the Redmote on the right side thou, as I could grab it there better. Looks like the way to go. DV-MultiRig to sell. Anyone?

_ssc0229

Epic, full featured. Bulky, but maybe someone needs this. One thing I see is the following. The Back Pad can also be used as a Shoulderrest. This way I could transform my 3d-Rig (Back Pad and Shoulder Pad plus two Grips and two Fixed Scarlets) into two Run and Gun type of Rigs (Fixed Scarlet plus one Grip and the Shoulder Pad / Fixed wit one Grip and the Back Pad as Shoulderrest). Sounds like a cool Kit for “normal” Work.

All in all I now really can see the Kit I want appear in front of my eyes. Now I need Dates, Prices and an appointment with my Bank Account Manager (Wife) to get this thing going.
