Gearporn - Again from the beginning

There we go again. After the Scarlet has been dumped we know nothing about the all new Scarlet. Well, nearly nothing
I’ll later add a post with some speculations from my side what the all new Scarlet will be.

There is a lot of info coming early in November, but I thought until that time I might “leak” some info along the way.
1st piece of news is that the target startup time for both models is… drum roll, please… 2 seconds.
Owning a RED ONE will be of great importance as we move forward.
That’s all for now.
Jim
2 Seconds? Thats blazing fast. My So*y FX-1 thakes 10 seconds to start filming when it’s on. So yeah, I like that
Our current EVF and LCDs will work with Epic and Scarlet.
Yeah, and cost nearly as much as the Scarlet, so this is mainly an Epic thing, or if you hav this stuff for your R1 and can now use it also on your Scarlet…

Damn.
Both RED Epic and Scarlet have changed. I think you will be quite surprised at what we have done. I said in an earlier post that “the market had changed”. I didn’t mean that others have changed the market… I meant that we had with these two models. That will be much clearer early November.
Jim
This sounds good for me. Never understood what would have let them change their things but themself.
The wait for Scarlet will not be long. We plan to make MANY of them. Don’t worry.
Jim
Which means no reservations and no Serials. Order and get them in a short Timeframe. Hope this will work.
The only complaints Scarlet owners will have… “why can’t we get Epic specs for 1/10th the price?”.

Jim
Well, I think I’ll not be one of them. And I don’t think that is all they will have complaints about. But time will tell. It’s just two Weeks or so till November…
What’s a DSMC?
Jim
And that’s why I never made a new Category for this DSMC thing, which I thought from the beginning will get the name Scarlet.
All found in this Thread on reduser.com

At reel-show.tv on Traveling with Red with Rodney Charters there is a lot of Talk about the Red One and how the communication between the DP and the Red Guys is. It’s very interesting Stuff, so you should go there and waste 23 Minutes or so. It’s worth the Time.
But the Interesting Part really is the one when they come to talk, just a little bit, about the Scarlet. As Rodney is a Guy that works with Red since a year at lest maybe he knows more than others. His Words are (roundabout) this:
The Scarlet seems to be going away, and his Idea now is to build a still camera that also does video.
Well that doesn’t say enough, but doesn’t this sound like the DSMC, the Digital Still and Motion Camera, is the new Scarlet? And doesn’t that, as the DSMC was announced to smash the Still Market, mean that the Cam will have 35mm and interchangeable Lenses?
at least they said so in an Exclusive Video Interview for Collider.com whicht is a must read/see for Red- and Filmfans living on the extreeeme site of Filmmaking.
So Crank 3 will be 3D. To be honest Filming Crank 2 just startet, so they have some time to do it, but they said they have pushed Red into the 3D Direction. And they said the 3d Rig needs to be less heavy. That, for me, sounds like Scarlet.
And as Red has trademarkes for 3D cameras, 3D Lenses, 3D projector, 3D glasses, and lastly 3D Software maybe the all new Scarlet will be a 3D one.
And as five Hollywood studios are rolling out a Billion plus for upgrading Screens to 3d it seems that the Playground is there, even for indies like you and me. I mean, the most Festivals or Indy-Films are held in Cinemas, which likely will have the 3d-Screen anyway, so why not use it?
After the Bomb dropped nine days ago the Thread about the new Scarlet we nearly know nothing. But some Things got clearer after now 1111 Posts and LiminalTV was so kind to put everything together.
In spite of all the wild guess work going on round here, I think we have been given enough information by Jim to have a sensible stab at a specification. Reading between the lines I think the obvious facts are:
1) Scarlet will run on hydrogen.
2) The right handed version will be available shortly after NAB. The left hand version will follow by late Martober.
3) Scarlet will weigh twice as much when held upside down.
4) The sensor will be a 5-dimensional complex hypersphere with a minimum resolution of at least (321+16i)K.
5) Scarlet will be biodegradable.
6) Scarlet will run on 120 volts, but only needs 116 of them. The spare electrons are collected in a small hopper which must be emptied between shoots.
7) The lens will be gravitational. Current information indicates that it will use a fixed space-time metric singularity. It might also support Hanimex lenses.
8 ) The variable frame rate will support negative values. Shooting backwards before this announcement will invalidate the warranty.
9) Scarlet will support Redcode 2 which compresses footage to 1/infinity percent of the raw data. A 5 1/4 inch floppy drive is integral to the camera and is the only storage that will be needed.
If you haven’t recognised till know this up there is not true. If you wanna know what we know go to the Scarlet’s Redesign: What we know Thread. One thing to mention is this. The new Specs will arive early November.
Till then,
George
At least. Avid has come to Red-Land. And how they did.
They have a dedicated site (just click the Image up there) that features the Workflow, Avid Resources and 3rd Party Ressources for it. As I’m no Avid User at all I’m very impressed how there take on the “Problem” is.
After shouting out load “What are you? Stoned or stupid?” everything changed. Why? Well, take a look at this:
We have changed everything about Scarlet because the market has changed and we have discovered a lot of things in the process. We have a new vision.
Wipe you minds of the past announced Scarlet. Forget the design and forget the price. It is all different now. We think you will be surprised. Glad we didn’t take any deposits…

DAMN! And Hell ya!
Maybe the announced DSMC - Digital Still and Motion Camera, a new Hybrid of DSLR and Motion Cam is the new Scarlet? Maybe not. Maybe they saw the D90, The A-Cam dII and the new Canon and now really wanted to integrate exchangeable Lenses now. Maybe they just, as Jim said on Scarletuser, just got the Scarlet working and saw so much to make it better that it is a Scarlet 2nd Gen?
I don’t know, but I was, for a Minute or so, concerned that maybe they have fallen to the Dark side of the Market. But Jim helped me with this one:
You don’t satisfy customers by offering less. Technology is advancing… not retracting. The big news here is different than you think. We’ll try to get news out sooner than later.
Jim
Sounds good to me. Give me more, for less, or for the same Price. But please, don’t get to high up, there is not that much Room there to catch the independent up there. If they are there they’ll get a redone anyway…
The very best of the old Scarlet remains…

Jim
And I really hope that this is the Price…
Ikonoskop, the makers of the previously mentioned A-cam-dii posted a link to their FAQ about the A-cam.
Doesn’t explain the Title of this post at all? Well, this is the Part that I got this Quote in my mind from:
Q. What you can say in regards to people comparing A-cam dII with Scarlet? What I can see the dII is 3 times the price of Scarlet’s USD 3K.
A. Latest rumor for Scarlet is 12.000 USD with all necessary cables, battery, lens to have a operational camera.
Okay. The Red Guys said nothing about the A-cam as I asked them about it. Was kind of like “We don’t talk about Competitors, nor do we talk bad about them” But this is ridiculous. Where do you get that rumors from? smackyourheadtothewall12timesaminutetillitbleeds.com? No really. I’ve read Posts and sites that said you could double the cost to get a full featured Scarlet. But 12.000 USD? Well, I’ve heard a rumor that you Guys seem to have a really shitty cam if you need to do things like that on that Site mentioned up there. Sorry, the Site seems to be down
This brings another Quote in Mind:
You know what capitalism is? Getting fucked!
Tony Montana, Scarface
The first Competitor for the Scarlet talked about here. Well, what do we have?
The Ikonoskop A-cam dII is a 16mm cam arrived at the digital age. It records uncompressed raw 1920×1080 Images which makes 80GB last 12 Minutes in 25 fps. Which means for one Hour of material you need 400GB Space on your drive. As I have recorded more than 15 Hours of material for my 1hour BloodOpera that would be… 6000… way to much for an Indy-Guy doing No-Budget Stuff.
The Cam has exchangeable Lenses with various mounts, so this would be a plus. But the Sensor is barely bigger than the Scarlets one:
The A-Cam ones should be at S16 Size
Yeah, you can exchange the Lenses, but it will not give you the 35mm Look. And that’s why they want it primarily. Okay, the Lens is f1.5, the Scarlets one only f2.8 (till now, but announced to be better).
The Price? €9800. And right now €6800 for a short period of time, which is about 12.000$
Scarletkiller? No way. Higher Price, way larger files and no one knows how they will work while editing… Interesting? Of cause. But nor for me, maybe for someone who has more money to spent and doesn’t know where to better put it (Effects, Software, Actors or even Accessoires for your Scarlet )
